Does anyone know anything about cordless phones?

I've just inserted a new 3.6v battery into this and I can't get a dialing tone. I phoned the Binatone Helpline and the person there really did try to help. We tried de & re-registering it, switching it off & on again and keying in various things but all to no avail. Both the green (offhook light) and red (charge light) are continuously flashing. The Binatone person said that it's to do with a paging facility and I was instucted by the Binatone person to press this several times. It's been 'charging' now for more than 24 hours (takes 15/16 hours I'm told)! I've tried to find a manual on the web too. There's an AEG site but it's not free and I think this is a disgrace! Why does one have to pay for being looked after as a customer?...I was also told that I could (a) send it back to them for repair (I think this cost me �12, 2 years ago and the repair excluding postage and packing would be �20. What a joke! (Does nothing work these days?) It's made in China, just like our Vax Hoover was, we had a replacement for that and the replacement worked for precisely 5 hooverings and then went completely defunct. So is there a messge in there somewhere too folks?
