I'm sick of all the bashing...?

Why do some christians and atheists constantly challenge the other side? It seems like everyday now I find religious arguments in some random place (i've seen one in the Decorating and Remodeling forum). I don't understand why some people sit on yahoo all day questioning religion/atheism when they could be doing something that doesn't hurt other people. While it is true that religion has no or little supporting evidence to the creationism aspect to it, it helps many people overcome the difficulties of life and stops many people from abusing others, having way too early etc. On the contrary, it also turns some christians... some... into intolerant bigots who go against their own religion. I'm no expert on the bible by any means, but does it not say "Love thy neighbor"? Of course we atheists are to be blamed just as much as anyone else. If we constantly say to others that they are believing in lies, what about our own? While it is true that many atheists don't care how our world was created, many of us think that it made itself from a universal big-bang. Science and religion each have their faults; why can't we just live with what we have and let some super smart scientist/philosopher discover where we came from and the rest of the world's mysteries? I'm of course prepared for the mive number of disagreements I'm going to get as I probably sound like the world's biggest hypocrite, but keep in mind I'm just trying to make both sides see that they're not the only people who's opinions matter...
