What are the chemicals involved in ozone depletion. How do they cause ozone depletion?
they are called chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs. as the CFC is emitted from cars, refrigerators and other sources, they travel up to the ozone layer.i will just simplify this for you and i will not give you complex reactions anymore but what happens is that through radiation, the CFC is cleaved and the activated chlorine from this reaction attacks the ozone(O3) and form another compound.because of the successive reactions of CFCs to the ozone layer, the ozone layer continuously depletes.this is relatively dangerous because ozone layer is the earth's protection from too much ultraviolet rays. that is why nowadays, several reports about skin cancer were heard in the news.got it?
